I originally wanted to start keeping record of all the home projects we completed on our new house, documenting our progress, but after ruminating the idea, I didn’t feel like there was much to write home about, you know? It took over a year of convincing from my friends for me to realize there is so much knowledge I have regarding so many other topics that I ought to be sharing! Thus, Autumn Evelyn was born. The name “Autumn Evelyn” is a tribute to my girls, who are the center of my joyous life, as I have used both of their middle names to create the title. It is my goal to provide the most enriching childhood for them, which is why the blog name and Etsy shop is so befitting. It takes some creativity to achieve my goals for my children, and yes I do like to wear designer jeans! Doing everything in a spendthrift way is how I am able to afford both! Also, I never want to give anyone the room to say that a SAHM is not a job, so here we are set to task; this is the do-it-yourself income that will afford you the things you want out of life!
Though not always truly a source of revenue, DIY thriftiness manages your current income in a way that should always leave a few extra dollars in your pocket. If you’re being creative with those few extra dollars as well, you can make them stretch and act as if you just earned them, and not that they are the leftovers from your bread-winner.
So let’s get down to the nitty gritty, and start SAVING! Whether you are remodeling your new home, fixing your old one, or just grabbing a few ideas for your own projects, you are welcome to your fill of insight! I don’t pretend to be all-knowing in the DIY department, and so I am always looking for new ideas and ways to make it happen. Autumn Evelyn is a constant search for knowledge, and is not the lifestyle for the faint of heart. So if you’re ready to get your boots on, I welcome you to trudge on with me!
For my first tip, let’s start with blogs. There are many free engines out there, so start with those (and if you ever make enough spare change to support your blogging habits monthly, there are some pretty inexpensive ways to go about that): blogger, xanga, wordpress, and livejournal are a few simple and free web logging (blogging) sites. Blogger being the most recent, contains link features to Amazon that claim to be able to earn you money as well (we will test it and see, won’t we?), and free tech support on a minimal scale. Thank you Google for those features!
Beyond that, we have Squarespace, which is more advanced, allowing you to do more with your page, which inevitably attracts more followers, starting at $12 per month and escalating to $36 each month. Weebly is another site that offers free blogging, but their designer platforms go for $8 to $25 each month, depending on how many pages you want.
My question to you is who is using which blogging host? I want to know what the most popular blog is from the general blog-following populous, and which blog hosting site supports these popular blogs. It is one thing to post a blog, like everyone else, but some of these featured blogs started somewhere, moved, transformed, and now actually earn money from their blogging careers. For those of you with entrepreneur mentalities, knowing this information is vital for your goals, and I would love to provide it for you, but confess I do not hold that knowledge. As for me, I am simply interested in providing ways to save, and will stick with my freebies, thank you!
Cheers to fancy and frugal!
